With the shift in India’s polity and social milieu, each and every social formation both at macro and micro levels was faced with an unprecedented crisis in terms of strategies and operations. With the shift in the socio-political environment of the amidst erosion of constitutional values, growing sectarianism and rapid appropriation of natural resources by industry, erosion of community access and control over natural resources and growing exclusion of marginalised and vulnerable communities from the mainstream flow of “development process” emerges the need of strengthening the grassroots actions in order to raise the voices of unheard by strengthening the organisations representing these communities. Lot of time, energy and resources were deployed to initiate processes of consultations to evolve a shared understanding of the situation and evolving strategies to face the challenges. In light of the above scenario PEACE aims to focus on the following aspects in the coming years: Proactively support all local, regional and sectoral people’s struggles rising above all kinds of ‘sectarianism’. Strengthening the grassroots actions of the communities by supporting the people’s organisation representing the communities through organising building and leadership development of the active members of the communities. As a collaborative effort, setup mechanisms for facilitating linkages on a regular basis amongst local people’s struggles irrespective of ideological lineages, leadership, communities and nature of issue. Evolve collective strategies to work among the ‘non-affected’ sections of society concerning the issue of people’s struggles on a regular basis. Initiate collaborative effort between mass organisations, trade unions and social movements to develop a framework of ‘political and cultural education’ for the members/cadre of progressive and democratic organisations. Collective efforts need to be put in place to redefine/rearticulate/reclaim the discourse of ‘secularism’ as a key value of the republic of India.
