The Savitribai Phule Community Center, operated by PEACE in Bawana, is dedicated to empowering young girls and women from marginalised communities. The center serves as a safe space for learning, creativity, and social engagement, ensuring access to education, leadership opportunities, and cultural expression.

At the core of the center’s work is education and skill development. Daily teaching sessions provide academic support to children of laborers who cannot afford private tuition, operating in three shifts for students from grades 1 to 8. A library and self-study space is available for children who lack a conducive learning environment at home. Workshops on art, craft, and poster-making encourage creative expression, while painting sessions allow children to explore their artistic talents.
The center also fosters sports and physical activities, with young girls participating in football, kho-kho, and kabaddi practice sessions every Sunday. Weekly volunteer meetings ensure smooth coordination of activities, while field mobilisation efforts engage with local residents, increasing awareness and participation.
Awareness programs play a crucial role in the center’s impact. Meetings with young girls address topics like child protection and child marriage, while women’s meetings focus on children’s education, sanitation, and the impact of relocation. Cultural classes, including folk music, dance, and theater, allow children to express themselves and engage with social issues. Additionally, the center provides exposure opportunities, encouraging volunteers and students to attend external events, screenings, and office meetings to build confidence in navigating new environments.
Through these diverse initiatives, the Savitribai Phule Community Center continues to serve as a hub for education, empowerment, and leadership development, fostering confidence and equality among the community’s most vulnerable groups.
