- Strengthening of People’s Organisations: This involves developing a democratic structure, ensuring transparency, promoting collective leadership, and building a strong support base in the community.
- Constitutional Values: PEACE focuses on helping leaders, workers, and communities build a perspective based on constitutional values. This fosters a better understanding of citizenship, enabling them to move from being mere beneficiaries to becoming active citizens.
- Strengthening of Local Economies: PEACE believes that wherever communities are engaged in efforts, struggles, or movements to protect their resources, they should be supported in strengthening their local economies. Measures should be taken to improve their standard of living by reducing their dependence on markets. These measures can help agricultural or forest-dependent communities meet their daily needs through mutual cooperation and local products, fostering self-reliance. Additionally, they should explore alternative ways to use their resources sustainably.
Intervention Method
There are numerous approaches, methods, and techniques for teaching and learning. The choice of method and approach becomes crucial based on the learning objectives and the circumstances of the learners.
Our primary concern is to empower the poor and marginalised groups in society to stand on their own feet and live a dignified life, despite facing various pressures and challenges. In this context, the objective of learning is not just intellectual but also involves transforming beliefs, values, and behaviours.
Broadly speaking, our first need is to help the poor, marginalised, and oppressed communities move away from the mentality of “We can’t do anything” to the determination of “We can do everything.” The second need is for them to analyse their situation and be motivated to intervene accordingly. The third, and most crucial, need is to acquire the necessary skills and capacity to change their circumstances.
Thus, we require a learning approach that not only fosters intellectual growth but also brings about the desired changes in behaviour. Additionally, it should help develop the capacity to actively contribute to transforming their situation. In this way, we need teaching and learning methods that simultaneously address the development of intellect, behaviour, and capability.
“Experience-based” learning is a continuous, lifelong process and aligns with the natural learning processes of the communities we work with. Therefore, we will base our workshops on experience-based learning methods.
